Wie ich Euch vor ein paar Wochen schon erzählt habe, fahren Schatzi und ich im Februar für zwei Wochen mit dem Schiff nach New Orleans, Mexiko und Cayman Islands.
Schon im Dezember 2016 wurde gebucht. Viele von Euch werden sich fragen, warum denn so zeitig? Ganz einfach, diese Reise war innerhalb kurzer Zeit total ausgebucht, da es sich hierbei um eine Sonderfahrt handelt. Einmal im Jahr macht das Schiff aufgrund des Karnevals Halt in New Orleans.
I already told you a few weeks ago that my honey and I will be going on a cruise to New Orleans, Mexico and the Cayman Islands in February for two weeks.
We booked the trip in December 2016. Many of you might ask, why so early? Well, simply because this trip was sold out after a short amount of time since this is a special type of journey. Once every year the ship stops in New Orleans for the carneval.
Im vergangenen Jahr planten wir dann ganz genau unseren Trip und in nur mehr ein paar Tagen ist es jetzt endlich soweit.
Nachdem wir noch nie in New Orleans waren, wollen wir natürlich so viel wie nur möglich sehen. Reiseführer wurden gekauft, online recherchiert und Dokumentationen im Fernsehen angesehen.
Mexiko und die Cayman Islands kennen wir schon und deshalb waren dafür auch keine großen Vorbereitungen notwendig.
Bevor wir unsere Kreuzfahrt antreten, verbringen wir noch ein paar Tage in Florida (Fort Lauderdale).
Last year we started planning our trip in detail and in a few days time we will be on our way.
Since we’ve never been in New Orleans before we’d like to see as much as possible. We bought some guide books, did some research online and watched documentaries on TV.
We already know Mexico and the Cayman Islands so no special preparations necessary.
Before boarding the ship we will spend a few days in Florida (Fort Lauderdale).
Natürlich sind gewisse Vorbereitungen notwendig um eine große Reise anzutreten:
Ein gültiger Reisepass
Sollte der Pass ein halbes Jahr nach Reiseantritt ablaufen, dann unbedingt einen neuen Reisepass anfordern, das gilt aber nur für die USA.
Of course there are a few things you need in order to get going:
A valid passport
If your passport expires half a year after your journey begins you need to have a new one made, this only applies for trips to the USA though.
ESTA
Wer in die Staaten einreisen will, muss sich vor Reiseantritt online registrieren lassen (ESTA = Elektronische Einreisegenehmigung). Visumfreies Einreisen in die USA geht schnell, kostet ca. 14$ und ist zwei Jahre gültig!

If you want to go to the States you need to register yourself prior to your trip. The visa waiver program for the USA is quite easy to apply for and costs about 14$, it will stay valid for two years.
Nachdem wir ein paar Tage vor unserer Schiffsreise noch in Florida verbringen werden, haben wir kurzfristig online ein hübsches Hotel in Fort Lauderdale gebucht.
Since we wanted to spend a few days in Florida prior to our cruise we booked a nice hotel in Fort Lauderdale online.
Wer mit dem Schiff fährt, kann ganz bequem von zu Hause aus sein Bordmanifest (WEB Check-In) online machen. Ein Formular wird ausgefüllt, um ein schnelles und reibungsloses Einsteigen zu ermöglichen, kann aber auch vom Reiseanbieter ausgefüllt werden. Wer dazu keine Lust hat, bekommt seine Bordkarte vor Ort, muss aber mit längeren Wartezeiten rechnen.
When you go on a cruise, it’s quite easy to get your on-board manifest (WEB check-in) done at home online. You just need to fill in a form to ensure a quick and flawless boarding process, you can have your tourist agency do it for you however. If you don’t feel like doing it, you can finish it at the ship, which will however result in longer waiting times.
Bei einem 12-Stundenflug brauche ich immer ein Notfallpaket:
- Ganz wichtig ist ein großer warmer Schal, denn die Kälte im Flugzeug macht mir immer sehr zu schaffen.
- Ein guter Nasenspray: durch die Aircondition ist die Luft sehr trocken.
- Auch meine Lippen leiden an der trockenen Luft und deshalb verwende ich gerne einen guten Lippenbalsam.
- Bequeme Kleidung ist klar und dicke Socken ebenso.
- Ein kleines Fläschchen Parfum und Deo.
- Zahnbürste ist ebenfalls ein guter Tipp.
On a twelve hour flight I always need an energancy care package:
- Most important thing is a warm scarf, the cold air on a plane always gets to me.
- A good nasal spray, the air conditioning system on a plane makes the air very dry.
- My lips also tend to get dry in this environment, I like to use a good lip balm for that.
- Comfortable clothing, as well as warm socks.
- A small bottle of perfume and deodorant.
- A toothbrush is also a nice accessory.
Natürlich gibt es noch Einiges mehr, aber im Großen und Ganzen sind das die wichtigsten Reisevorbereitung für unseren Traumurlaub!
Of course there’s much more, but all in all those are the most important things to do before our trip!
