St. Pölten würde man jetzt nicht unbedingt als die kulinarische Hochburg bezeichnen. Doch die Stadt entwickelt sich immerhin langsam und ein paar coole Hot Spots sind mittlerweile zu finden. Im Herbst 2014 eröffnete dann auch das Café Wellenstein und bereichert seitdem die Gastronomie der niederösterreichischen Hauptstadt.
You would not necessarily call St. Pölten a culinary hot spot. Slowly but surely though the city is evolving and it now has a few cool places to offer. In autumn of 2014 Café Wellenstein opened its doors and has ever since been making Lower Austria’s capital a little more enjoyable.
Bezeichnend ist die wunderschöne Kulisse des Palais‘ und die beeindruckenden Gewölbe. Eingerichtet wurde das Lokal in den ehemaligen Empfangshallen der Gräfin von Wellenstein.
What’s special about it is the wonderful backdrop that the palace offers and the arches running through the place. The restaurant is located in the former foyer of countess of Wellenstein.
Die Dekoration wirkt zwar etwas lieblos, alles in allem kann man sich hier aber durchaus wohl fühlen.
The decoration feels like it’s in need for some love, but overall the place makes you feel quite comfortable.
Die Speisekarte ist sehr modern und die Wochenkarten sorgen für Abwechslung. Super ist die umfangreiche Frühstückskarte bis 14 Uhr. Über das Frühstück im Wellenstein habe ich schon sehr viel Gutes gehört.
The menu is quite modern and it changes on a weekly base. The extensive breakfast menu they have to offer until 2 P.M. is certainly a highlight. I’ve heard many good things about breakfast at the Wellenstein.
Wir waren allerdings zum Mittagessen dort und waren ein bisschen enttäuscht. Vielleicht haben wir uns von dem hoch gelobten Lokal zu viel erwartet. Die Portionen waren klein und lieblos angerichtet. Die Desserts allerdings entschädigten für den Hauptgang.
We tried the lunch menu and, to be honest, we were a bit disappointed. Maybe we just expected a bit too much from the often praised restaurant. The meals were quite small and were not put together with too much love. The desserts however made up for the main course.
Abschließend kann ich jedoch sagen, dass das Wellenstein eine nette Abwechslung im verschlafenen St. Pölten darstellt und ich werde vor allem der Frühstückskarte wohl noch eine Chance geben. Und nachher unbedingt noch einen Abstecher zu we love cakes St. Pölten machen!
Concluding you can definitely say that the Wellenstein is a nice change for the otherwise sleepy town of St. Pölten and I shall give it another chance, especially with the breakfast menu. And afterwards take a quick detour to we love cakes St. Pölten!
