Die Idee für diesen Beitrag kam mir erst vor Kurzem. Mit meiner Kamera bewaffnet machte ich mich auf den Weg um das „alte Wien“ zu erkunden. Mir fiel dabei sofort auf, dass man diese wunderschöne Stadt aus einem ganz anderen Blickwinkel sieht. Meist hetzt man von einem Geschäft zum Anderen und es interessieren einen doch nur die unzähligen Schaufenster und Kaffees, Dabei hat diese Stadt so Vieles zu bieten: zahlreiche Palais und Kirchen, winzig kleine Innenhöfe und Denkmäler die man vorher noch nie gesehen hat und auf einmal kommt ein Aha-Erlebnis, da bin ich doch schon unzählige Male vorbei gelaufen und mir ist es nicht aufgefallen!
I had the idea for this post a few days ago. Equipped with a camera I was off to explore the “old Vienna”. I immediately noticed the different view you get that way. Most of the time you’ll be busy running from one store to the next and all you really care for are the shop windows and cafes. The city has got so much more to offer though, palaces that you can adore, tiny little courtyards, monuments and churches that you’ve never seen before and all of a sudden you realize, “Huh, I’ve been here dozens of times before and I never noticed this!”

Das Palais Rottal ist die ehemalige Staatsschuldenkasse.
Palace Rottal is the former national debt cash desk.
Vor 1674 kam es in den Besitz des Grafen Rottal. Adam Graf Rottal verkaufte es 1741 an den Stadt-Banco (Geldinstitut), dessen Hauptaufgabe es war, für die Tilgung der Staatsschulden zu sorgen. Der Bancozettel war die erste Banknote in Deutschland und Österreich.
Around 1674 it was acquired by earl Rottal. He sold it to the “Stadt-Banco” in 1741 who was in charge of liquidating national debts. The “Bancozettel” was the first bank note in Germany and Austria.
Franz Hildebrand gestaltete den Umbau des Palais‘ und es ist bis heute Sitz staatlicher Institutionen.
Franz Hildebrand designed the remodeling of the palace. Today it is still inhabited by national institutions.
Der Franziskaner Platz liegt in einem der ältesten Stadteile Wiens, nur wenige Gehminuten vom Stephansplatz entfernt.
“Franziskaner Platz” is one of the oldest parts of Vienna, only a few minutes away from “Stephansplatz”.
Den Namen hat er von der Franziskanerkirche, die im 17. Jahrhundert im Renaissancestil erbaut wurde.
It got its name from “Franziskanerkirche”, which was built in the 17th century in the classic renaissance-style.
Ein Veteran der Lokalszene am Franziskaner Platz ist das “ Kleine Café“. Ein beliebter Szenetreff, vor allem für Leute aus dem künstlerischen Bereich.
A veteran of the bars and pubs of Franziskaner Platz is the “Kleine Café”. A favourite hangout for many, especially for artists.
In der Weihburggasse endet nun der erste Teil meines Stadtspazierganges. In nächster Zeit spazieren wir, wenn ihr Lust habt weiter durch den 1. Wiener Gemeindebezirk, es gibt noch sehr viel zu erkunden.
